Villa Cresta
Elementary School
Villa Cresta
Elementary contains grades, pre-kindergarten through fifth. The current
enrollment is approximately 528 students. A private day care facility is located
in the building, and a three to four-year-old program sponsored by the Baltimore
County Recreation Department is in operation four days a week. This school is a
learning site for the hearing impaired program, as well as the 3-4-5 year old
special education classes. The professional staff is composed of 50 instructors,
(6 hearing impaired/outreach educators), one media specialist, one guidance
counselor, one art teacher, one physical education
teacher, one vocal music teacher, three special educators, one reading
specialist, three speech/language clinicians, one itinerant ESOL teacher, one
physical therapist, one occupational therapist, one instrumental music teacher,
8 full-time and one part-time instructional assistants, one part-time technology
integration teacher, and several parent helpers for individual students,
three tutors, and two administrators.
Our Community
The school is located on the eastern edge of the central area
of Baltimore County in a mature community. The early residents have established
homes in the area prior to 1900. The main street of Harford Road along with the
fire department, police department, community organizations, churches, and
schools creates a picture of middle America.
Special Programs
A full spectrum of services and programs are available to
address the varying learning styles of our students. Programs for academically
talented students as well as remedial programs are offered. A tutorial program
in grades 1-2 was established. All students are taught the use of a
computer as a tool. Fifth graders create their own class newspapers and a memory
book, and attend a three-day outdoor education experience. Third graders create
a literary magazine. A student representative from each classroom, grades
1-5, will form a "kids panel" that will solve real life problems in
and around the school community. A Publishing Center is in operation to
stimulate book writing and student author publication. Curriculum Fair and
Career Day are learning adventures whereby students and families can explore
through workshops on instructional, school-centered topics, and career choices.
A Reading/Writing and Math Challenge will promote the quality and quantity of
reading, writing and math at Villa Cresta.
